There's a jam-packed schedule of family-friendly activities to mark the British Cycling's National Road Championships in East Cleveland this Sunday.

From a juggling penny farthing rider to puppet shows and hands-on creative activities, there's something for everyone - you can even ice your own cycling biscuit! Cycling enthusiasts from across the nation will be flocking to Saltburn and beyond this Sunday, June 23. A warm welcome awaits them, with fun-filled activities for the whole family.

The race will showcase the country's top cyclists, but aside from cheering on the competitors, visitors and locals alike can enjoy a full day of free entertainment. Many of these activities have been made possible through community grants from Tees Million.

Here's what's on offer:.

Saltburn

Street Entertainment

In Saltburn, where the races kick off and conclude, you'll get to meet England's top stunt penny farthing cyclist Felix Brent the English Gent. Not only is he a fantastic magician, but he's also a master juggler.

Keep an eye out for Witty Look a vibrant circus duo whose wild unicycling antics are sure to entertain the crowds.

Get Creative

Join the wonderful Whippet Up and create your own one-minute puppet show with their charming miniature puppet theatres.

Try your hand at print making with Dan Mather's mobile screen printer. Print your own cycle-themed keepsake of the event. You'll find him at the top of the bank on Marine Parade.

Visit Real Meals' stall on Marine Parade and decorate your very own cycle-shaped biscuit.

Unleash your creativity at the giant Colour Creation Station, where you can scribble, draw and doodle to your heart's content.

Live music

Prepare to be wowed by the local talent from TunedIn! who will be gracing the main stage near Brockley Hall between laps for a thrilling live music programme.

Cycle skills

Pop into a Cleveland Wheelers bike skills session in the seafront car park at the foot of Saltburn bank. Learn how to tackle some fun and challenging obstacles. A limited number of bikes will be available for loan, but feel free to bring your own. And remember your helmet!

Film premiere

Join Saltburn Inspired for the cycling film premiere Chasing the Sun at 2.30pm at Saltburn Theatre. This feature documentary explores the power of the bicycle to help save the planet, followed by a special Q&A with the producers.

Tickets are £8 and can be purchased at https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DMXB.

Big screen

Enjoy the bike race on the big screen in the seafront car park! Grab a deck chair and an ice cream and watch the race as it whizzes through the Redcar and Cleveland course.

Brotton

Brotton will be showcasing some fantastic art displays around the town, created by some amazing communities including Saltburn Brownies, Cleveland Pride, Whippet Up CIC and Skelton Cubs.

Join Helen Jane Gaunt and Derek Mosey, in collaboration with Badger Hill Academy, to contribute to a large-scale community mosaic. This artwork will be permanently displayed outside Badger Hill Academy, commemorating the cycling events that have passed through the town.

Get involved in a host of creative activities on Brotton High Street near Arctic Foxx Ices with BloomInArt (and why not treat yourself to an ice cream while you're there?). Don't miss the chance to admire the fantastic artworks created by Brotton Brownies and Guides.

Boosebeck and Lingdale

Expect a warm welcome for the riders with pom poms, giant flowers and decorated bikes. These decorations are the work of local residents and volunteers at Boosbeck Village Hall and Lingdale Village Hall.

Boosbeck Village Hall will also be open all day for refreshments and will be creating a giant flag in the morning to cheer on the afternoon cyclists.

Remember, we offer a FREE Park & Ride scheme from Kirkleatham Walled Garden to Saltburn. The shuttle buses will operate from 8.30am to 7.45pm, and you can book your free places here.

Please ensure to book both journeys - from Kirkleatham to Saltburn and then your return journey back.

Lisa Storey, Cultural Development Manager at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, expressed her excitement about the upcoming events, stating: "We could not be more excited about this programme of events...and it's all free! This event is chance to show off our beautiful borough to sports fans across the world...but it doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun for all the family right here in Redcar and Cleveland."

Motorists heading to the National Cycling Championships later this month are being encouraged to utilise Saltburn's FREE Park and Ride or public transport on the day of the event. More information about the park and ride can be found here.

A significant portion of the activities have been made possible through community grants from Tees Million.
