The family affected most by the Harvey Weinstein scandal

Harvey Weinstein is “profoundly devastated” following reports of sexual assault and harassment. Over the past week, dozens of women have come forward accusing the producer of sexual misconduct, and Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman, has announced she is leaving him.

“I have lost my wife and kids, whom I love more than anything else,” Weinstein told Page Six. “I fully support her decision. I didn’t stand in Georgina’s way when we discussed a separation, I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. I know she has to do what is best for the children, for herself and her business, she employs 130 people. I don’t want her or my children to be hurt any more than they already have. I truly love Georgina, and I hope one day we can reconcile, although right now I don’t know if that could possibly happen.”

Considering his statement, let’s take a look at that family.

Weinstein’s first wife was Eve Chilton. In 1986, Chilton worked as her future husband’s assistant at Miramax. By the following year, he married her and placed her in charge of the children’s division of the studio. Former Miramax employee Mark Lipsky spoke about their relationship in a 2004 book, Down and Dirty Pictures.

“It seemed like not even a day [passed] before he was all over her,” Lipsky, who was head of distribution at the time, alleged. “For possibly a couple weeks or so there were a dozen roses on her desk when we walked in to work, to the point where we had to confront him and say: ‘You can’t do this, it’s an office not your personal, sexual playground.’”

According to the Daily Mail, Chilton is the well-off daughter of a prominent New England family who summered on Martha’s Vineyard. In the book, she is described as loving, devoted, and selfless.

While there are photos of Chilton supporting her husband at various red carpet events during their nearly two decades-long marriage, she reportedly preferred to live her life out of the spotlight. After the couple divorced in 2004, she remarried and moved to the suburbs for a quieter life.

Weinstein and Chilton’s divorce settlement was kept private, but they had joint custody of their three three daughters: Lily, 22, Emma, 19, and Ruth, 14. Many of the harassment and assault allegations against Weinstein supposedly took place around the time when Chilton gave birth (1995, 1998, 2002).

The girls also live their life primarily out of the public eye; however, Weinstein’s oldest daughter, Remy (formerly Lily), was dragged into the headlines on Thursday. Cops were called to her home in Los Angeles when she believed her father was “depressed and suicidal.”

“Remy overreacted at the situation. … This situation is of course very hard for Harvey, but he is not suicidal — his heart is breaking for his kids,” an insider claimed to Page Six, adding Weinstein doesn’t want them “to be drawn into the media maelstrom.”

Those aren’t the only kids he wants to protect. Weinstein also has two young children with his second wife, Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman.

The producer met Chapman, then an aspiring designer, at a party in 2004. “I had no idea who he was,” she recalled to Vogue years later. “He’s not a person you can sort of ignore or brush off. He’s incredibly charming and so charismatic, it sort of draws you in.”

Weinstein and Chapman began dating shortly after his divorce and the pair married in 2007. In an interview two years later, Chapman brushed off their 24-year age gap and reacted to rumors she had tamed him and his infamous temper.

“He is warm … and he is very funny,” she told the Evening Standard. “You can’t stop people commenting, can you? You can choose to react or not react and as long as no one’s life is at risk, and the children are OK, what does it matter? The truth is there is no great exciting story, like I fell off a boat and he rescued me. We met at a party, we were friends and then a while later it developed into more.”

A friend of both Weinstein and Chapman, actor David Oyelowo, told Vogue in 2013 there’s “genuine love there, and there’s genuine mutual respect.” He added, “Harvey is an incredibly powerful man and very talented and tenacious at what he does. And Georgina is the same, but their approaches are different. Georgina is very self-deprecating but equally passionate, and Harvey is far more firm-footed, yet they come out with the same result, which is to be the best at what they do.”

Chapman gave birth to their first child, daughter India, in 2010. They welcomed a son, Dashiell, three years later. In April, the designer told Forbes she’s also fiercely protective of her children.

“Yes, I like my kids to know that I’m there for them then,” she explained. “During the week, everyone’s rushing around between activities and school, and then dinner, bath and bed. … The weekends I like to be peaceful. My daughter’s very keen on horse riding, so we spend a lot of time at the stables.”

Family time on the weekends often included Weinstein’s daughters from his first marriage too. Growing up, the girls would visit his home with Chapman in Connecticut every other weekend, according to a profile in Vogue. They would also participate in family vacations.

Although Weinstein initially stated that Chapman was standing by him, she released a statement this week that they are separating.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time,” she said.

Despite previous reports Weinstein was checking into a treatment facility in Arizona, People claims he has instead checked into a five-star hotel there instead because “he doesn’t want to go a place where he can’t use his cellphone.”

“His team set him up at a secure place to get him the help he needs — he knows and wants help,” a source tells the magazine.

It remains to be seen where he and his family will go from here.
