Family of NYC bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash pleads for driver to have ‘little bit of conscience”

Fatal Bronx hit-and-run.
Thierno Balde, 24, left, was killed by a hit-and-run driver, which his brother says has the family demanding justice.

The heartbroken family of a Bronx man killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bicycle to a local mosque is praying the driver will “have a little bit of conscience” and turn herself in.

“I spoke to our mother this morning. She just wants justice,” said Mamadou Balde — whose brother Thierno Balde, 24, was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Friday morning and left dying on a cold Bronx street.

“She’s a person of faith and she believes in destiny,” Mamadou, 38, said. “That is what is keeping her hope alive. She wants to get justice for her son.

“Imagine your son, 24 years old, going out to pray and then someone hits him — you can’t even explain that,” he said. “Put yourself in his mother’s shoes. Think if you had a 24-year-old boy that is trying to achieve his goals and then someone comes and hits him and runs. How would you feel?”

Police said Thierno, a native of Guinea, was pedaling along shortly before 6 a.m. when he was struck at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and East 161st Street on Friday — with shocking surveillance footage obtained by The Post capturing the horrific moment of impact.

The woman behind the wheel drives on for two more blocks before she stops the SUV as it becomes engulfed in smoke — then casually gets out, retrieves something from inside and simply walks away, the video shows.

Thierno was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The NYPD is still looking for the heartless hit-and-run driver.

Mamadou Balde said his kid brother, who was laid to rest on Monday, was on his way to morning prayers at a nearby mosque when he was killed — derailing what promised to be a successful future.

“He has his bachelor’s [degree] in bank insurance that he got in Guinea,” he said. “He moved here five months ago and was doing ESL trying to learn the English language. Then after that [he] was going to pursue a career in either bank insurance or computer science.”

He said the family is still praying that the driver will come forward.

“Put yourself in my mother’s shoes,” he added. “Have a little bit of conscience.”
