Fashion fans queued in London from the early hours of the morning in a bid to get their hands on the £1,800 Air Jordan 1 OG Dior trainers.

Hundreds of people braved cold and rainy weather from as early as 4am to queue outside the Bond Street Dior Flagship and Selfridges (the only UK store where fans can buy the trainers.)

It was announced just last week that five million people had registered for a chance to buy the limited edition sneakers - even though only 13,000 were produced and only 8,000 pairs will be sold today. The other 5,000 pairs are being offered to Dior's top clients and VIPs.

Today, the Dior store was only selling a capsule collection of other Air Jordan ready-to-wear clothing and accessories.

Charlie McDon, 24, woke up at 12.30am to travel from Liverpool to get in the queue at 4.30am. He said the trainers were “very limited” and anyone who got their hands on a pair “have done very well.” He wanted to buy a £1050 jumper.

“It was cold over night, and it has finally stopped raining now,” he said of his experience in the queue. “It’s all part of the fun though.”

The neutral-toned trainers - which cost $2,000 for the low-top version and $2,200 for the high-top model - are a collaboration between Dior Homme creative director Kim Jones and athletic wear maker Jordan Brand, created by basketball star Michael Jordan.

The trainers were first glimpsed at the Men’s Fall 2020 Runway show in Miami in December, when Jones - a longtime fan of the Air Jordan - unveiled the collaboration. Jones enlisted the help of rapper Travis Scott to model the trainers for the accompanying campaign.

The shoes were scheduled to launch in April, but the launch was postponed for two months due to the pandemic.

Some pairs of the trainers are already for sale on re-selling sites for up to £10,000.
