Vin Diesel goes bad - and we mean really bad - in the latest look at the high-octane Fast & Furious 8.

For nearly 20 years now, we've seen criminal drag racer-turned-actually superhero Dominic Toretto put his life on the line time and time against to protect his crew (or "family" as he likes to refer to them).

That all ends in the eighth instalment of the franchise, as Dom inexplicably turns his back on Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and even his own wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).

"What we wanted to do is capitalise off of what the saga's represented for the last two decades and attempt to challenge it," Vin teases in the new trailer. "The only way we were really going to be able to continue this story was to expose the darker, more dangerous side to Dom Toretto. And that's what we had to do!"

At the centre of this troubling change-of-heart for Dom is the franchise's fiercest-ever villain Cipher (Charlize Theron), who somehow sways Toretto into hunting down his old friends.

"This is a completely different story than you've ever experience in the Fast franchise," director F. Gary Gray teases. "Dom is always about family, and with this storyline he's going up against the team and he's going up against the family."

To take down Dom, Hobbs and Letty must make their own deal with the devil as they join forces with the former arch enemy Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). Expect some help from Shaw's mum too...

Fast and Furious 8 - also known as The Fate of the Furious - pulls into cinemas on April 17. Watch a trailer below:
