What did you miss?

Fay Ripley has confessed that being thanked for her cookery books means more to her than being recognised for her acting. The actor and TV presenter is known to millions as Jenny Gifford in hit ITV drama Cold Feet, whose cancer storyline moved viewers to tears. But the 57-year-old mother-of-two revealed she gets emotional when fans approach her to tell her how much they love her family recipes.

What, how, and why?

Ripley appeared on Lorraine with Neil Morrissey to discuss their new Channel 5 drama Finders Keepers.

Ripley revealed: "It makes me so happy - in our line of work people come up and they recognise you for various bits of work that you've done. But when someone mentions my lemon chicken - they come up and go ' Oh my God, your lemon chicken, the kids loved it.' Tear to the eye!"

Lorraine Kelly quipped "Forget the Baftas!" Ripley replied: "Let's not forget the Baftas, let's encourage the Baftas, alongside the books."

She added of her recipe books: "I don't really think of it as a career. I do write about food but for me it's just that I love food. That's just part of my life, it's just ingrained into my life, and sometimes I take it to work."

Ripley published her first cookbook Fay's Family Food in 2009. She said at the time: "I want to help people prepare good food for their kids, really practical stuff that's easy, quick, healthy and you can whizz up in the blender for the baby." She has since published recipe books What's For Dinner and Fay Make It Easy. But the Suspects star and The One Show presenter is rumoured to have turned down the chance to host her own cooking series, choosing to focus on acting.

Finders Keepers, which also stars The Inbetweeners star James Buckley, is about a father and future son-in-law who find Saxon treasure while out on an amateur metal detecting trip, and then clash over whether to turn it in.

What else happened on Lorraine?

Line Of Duty star Neil Morrissey claims he landed Adrian Dunbar his starring role as Superintendent Ted Hastings in the hit police drama.

The Men Behaving Badly actor, who plays DC Nigel Morton in the BBC show, revealed: "We've been friends for over 40 years. We were at drama school together and his family looked after me during the summer holidays.

"When I went for the audition for Line Of Duty, my scene as Nigel Morton was with a character called Hastings and they had a stage manager in there reading the lines. And when I was leaving I said 'Who's playing Hastings?' and they said 'We don't know, he's not cast yet. And I said, 'Have you though of Adrian Dunbar? They did say 'That's an interesting idea'.

"He of course denies it completely and says they were looking for a Northern Irish Chief Inspector anyway. But I'm sure I put him on the radar. And he has bought me a pint or two."

Lorraine airs on ITV1 at 9am on weekdays.
