FLATS planned for an industrial area of Bradford would not be “conducive to the health and well-being of residents” – according to public health officers.

A planning application to build a development of shops and flats on a car storage yard at Birksland Street – off Leeds Road, has recently been submitted to Bradford Council by a Mr Hughes.

The plans would see the construction of building with four shops on the ground floor, with 12 apartments on the upper floors.

The development would be opposite the Haworth Scouring factory.

The application says the shop units will “appeal to end users similar to those using the Leeds Road area.”

A decision has yet to be made on the application, but the Council’s public health team has raised concerns about the location of the planned flats – and the impact on the health of their future residents.

Comments from the public health team say: “The building will be affected by traffic, noise pollution and air pollution.

“Public Health would like to ask if there has been a demonstration of the need for this type of build being proposed for residential flats at this location.

“Public Health does not feel this is a location that’s conducive to the health and well-being of residents.”
