Attention Harmonizers, 5H has finally dropped their newest video for their latest single “That’s My Girl” and it SLAYS! As a fellow harmonizer, I am so BEYOND pleased with the video! It is so good to see this group stand on their own and have a single that doesn’t include a feature. I’m not saying that their other songs that do include a feature aren’t good, but I like seeing musical artists just be in their own element sometimes. The last video where 5H was solo was for Sledgehammer, their second single of their debut album Reflection. Fifth Harmony was still widely unknown during the time of their first studio album. They did already have an established fan base thanks to them being contestants on the X Factor USA (season 2). I would say that it was necessary for them for have singles that featured other widely-known artists so that they could increase their fan base and be on a larger platform.

I love the theme for this video, it’s the ever-popular dystopian theme. And the members Fifth Harmony are the saviors of the crumbling city. Watching the girls strut up the hill with Ally leading the pack is so nice. It finally seems like the girls are getting equal screen time, which can be difficult with musical groups. The contrast between the black and white outfits are aesthetically pleasing as it clearly shows how they are saving people but also being able to be strong too. They are also finally doing something I’ve been wanting them to do for a long time…THEY ARE ALL SINGING THE CHORUS!!!! This is what I’m talking about, I’m really getting group vibes from them in this video. Their chemistry is on point even there are rumors of an impending break-up, but those silly rumors are a distant memory in this music video.

This video also reminds somewhat of Beyonce’s popular video “Run the World (Girls)” as well as Little Mix’s “Salute”, the girls aren’t afraid to get dirty because saving the city is anything but a clean job. I thought this video was directed masterfully and that the choreography of it all was very well done! Fifth are serving us real girl power in this video, and I doubt anyone is complaining.
