Fire Country Cast Tees Up Arrival of Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff and Her Relation to [Spoiler] — Exclusive Video

One of Edgewater’s bravest will get a blast from their past when CBS’ Fire Country introduces a new character that, in success, just might headline the sophomore drama’s first spinoff.

In the sixth episode of this 10-episode season, titled “Alert the Sheriff” and airing Friday at 9/8c, after a fire camp inmate escapes from Three Rock, a deputy sheriff “with a surprising connection to the Leones” is called to investigate.

Morena Baccarin (Gotham, Homeland) will guest-star as said sheriff, Mickey Fox, in the episode penned by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by series lead/co-creator Max Thieriot. With the one-off role comes the option for Baccarin to headline a potential spinoff — Sheriff Country is the title we’ve heard bandied about — if it winds up being ordered to series.

As for the character’s “surprising connection” to someone we know? Mickey Fox, the exclusive video above reveals, is not only a sheriff’s sergeant with the Edgewater County sheriff’s office, she is the sister of one Sharon Leone (Diane Farr).

“They were estranged for a while,” Baccarin shares in the video, and as such there is a tension when circumstances bring the siblings face to face. Adds Farr, “We sort of have to find each other again and work our way through the thing that all sisters have to get through,” which in this case appears to be some harsh words Sharon once had for Mickey.

Cast members Kevin Alejandro and Stephanie Arcila speak of how this Friday’s episode — though not a backdoor pilot for a Sheriff Country spinoff per se — meshes together the different worlds of Edgewater’s sheriff and fire departments. You also “get to see the shady things that go on as well,” Thieriot notes, which “helps paint the entire picture of what Edgewater is like.”

All told, Thieriot says the episode evolves into a “thriller/mystery/action drama… and of course theres a little bit of fire!”
