Fire Engulfs Historic WW2-Era Airport Hangar in Edmonton

A World War II-era airport hangar in Edmonton, Alberta, was destroyed by a fire on Monday, April 22, footage shows.

Footage taken by X user @jennawinterburn shows Hangar 11, a structure built in 1942, engulfed by flames.

According to local news reports, Hangar 11 was recently designated a Municipal Heritage Resource, which would’ve protected the structure. It was scheduled to be restored and transformed into a “mixed-use environment” with “restaurant, retail, and residential space” serving an adjacent housing development, the Edmonton Journal said.
