Fire Whirl Forms on Driveway as Meteorologist Burns Away Ice

A North Dakota meteorologist captured stunning video of a small fire-whirl forming as he used gasoline to remove ice from his driveway after a major ice storm on Thursday, January 4,

Aaron Kennedy of Grand Forks told Storyful he “decided to have some fun and ‘burn’ some of it off” after he had one too many falls on the ice.

“A fire-whirl developed which was exciting since I’m a meteorologist,” said Kennedy. “My driveway faces north and the winds were out of the south, so it made a little ‘eddy’ around my garage. The heat from the fire caused this spin to amplify, similar to how waterspouts are formed.” Credit: Aaron Kennedy via Storyful
