Firefighters Continue Operation to Contain Stromboli Volcano Damage

Italian firefighters continued a major operation to contain damage to the area around Stromboli’s volcano on Thursday, July 4, after an eruption the previous day.

Italy’s Vigili del Fuoco fire service needed two Canadair aircraft and thirty ground units to battle fires caused by ash and hot rocks coming from the volcano. Fires were tackled around Ginostra, with the help of local authorities from Messina in Sicily.

ANSA reported that the situation was under control in the surrounding areas by July 4.
