Fire crews rescued a motorist trapped in a vehicle following a two-car smash which saw 999 crews rush to the scene.

Emergency services attended Marsh House Avenue in Billingham at around 6.30pm on Monday and freed a person trapped in a car. Pictures from the scene show police, fire and ambulance vehicles in attendence with a police cordon erected at the scene.

Several police officers and firefighters could be seen dealing with the incident as a diversion was put in place. Cleveland Fire Brigade has confirmed it sent crews to the scene and freed a trapped casualty.

A spokesperson said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on May 13, 2024 at 6:33pm to an incident on Marsh House Avenue in Billingham. Two fire engines were in attendance from Billingham and Stockton. Road Traffic Collision (RTC) involving two vehicles, one casualty trapped. Crews carried out extrication and handed casualty over to NEAS. Crews made scene safe. We left the scene at 7.38pm."

Cleveland Police confirmed there were no serious injuries.
