Aldi is set to open its first Goole store next month, the budget supermarket has announced.

The brand new store, in Lady Sybil Road, will launch on Thursday, July 4 at 8am. Store manager Clare King will be at the helm of the new Aldi, working with a team of 26 colleagues from the local community.

As Aldi has been fuelling Team GB with fresh, healthy food since 2015 through monthly vouchers, Clare and her team will be joined by Olympics silver medallist Sam Cross to celebrate the store launch by cutting the all-important ribbon on opening morning. Sam - who in 2016 was selected to represent Great Britain at the Summer Olympics in Rio as part of the nation's rugby sevens team - will also be giving away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Clare said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Goole. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Sam Cross join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Rugby star Sam said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store. It will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”

The Lady Sybil Road store will be open from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Consumer group Which? confirmed Aldi as the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket for 2023, the third year in a row that it has been awarded this title.

Goole’s Aldi will include the chain’s award-winning “Specially Selected” range, exclusive beers, wines and spirits, and a “Food to Go” section at the front of the store. Goole customers will also be able to take advantage of Aldi’s legendary middle-aisle Specialbuys every Thursday and Sunday.

The new Aldi is calling on local charities and food banks in the town to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community. Local groups that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com while job applications and more information on all of Aldi’s store positions can be found here.
