An unnamed police officer claimed that one of the girls was told to hold a handkerchief on the face of the victim after he’d been sprayed by the other girl.

She said she thought spraying him had been a ‘prank’.

Yesterday, South Korean officials confirmed that Kim Jong-nam had died after falling ill at Kuala Lumpur Airport on Monday morning.

The 46-year-old North Korean was an outspoken critic of his brother’s tyrannical regime, and allegedly died after he was smothered with a cloth soaked in poison as he waited to board a flight.

Jong-nam was believed to have been travelling home to the wealthy Chinese principality of Macau when he was fatally attacked.

Fadzil Ahmat, the criminal investigation chief, said: ‘He told the receptionist at the departure hall that someone had grabbed his face from behind and splashed some liquid on him.

‘He asked for help and was immediately sent to the airport’s clinic. At this point, he was experiencing headache and was on the verge of passing out.

‘At the clinic, the victim experienced a mild seizure. He was put into an ambulance and was being taken to the Putrajaya Hospital when he was pronounced dead.’

Jong-nam, the son of the late Kim-Jong Il, previously spoke out against the North Korean government – and an attempt on his life was previously made in 2012.

Malaysian Police say that a post mortem has been carried out and the investigation into his death is currently ongoing.
