The eagerly anticipated Throwley Yard Cinema in Sutton is set to open its doors on Friday, June 21 and artist impressions of the first look inside and plan have just been released. This new venue promises to be much more than a traditional cinema, offering a vibrant mix of entertainment and community activities right in the heart of Sutton.

Located on the site of the former Chicago’s nightclub, which had been vacant since 2013 and also housed a Wilko, Throwley Yard Cinema is the result of a collaborative project between Sutton Council and Really Local Group. This innovative space features a 4-screen cinema, live event space, bar, café, and a DJ academy led by the renowned Dixon Brothers from KISS FM.

To celebrate its grand opening, Throwley Yard Cinema is offering all film tickets for just £6 throughout its first month. The opening line-up includes highly anticipated films such as Pixar’s Inside Out 2, the motorcycle crime thriller The Bikeriders, action comedy Bad Boys: Ride or Die, indie drama La Chamira, and Freud’s Last Session, starring Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode.

Preston Benson, Founder and CEO of Really Local Group, expressed his excitement about the launch. He said: “Throwley Yard Cinema has been in the works for a number of years, so we are excited to be able to open our doors next week. Built on the site of the former Chicago’s nightclub, the venue has undergone a huge amount of renovation to reinvigorate the space as a cultural hub in the heart of the high street, bringing a wide range of film and entertainment to the local community.

"We’re very proud of the space we’ve created and we look forward to Sutton locals enjoying the new venue and rich programme of films and events that it will offer.”

Throwley Yard Cinema is designed to be a versatile community space. Beyond film screenings, it will host live events, offer a spacious café and sun terrace, and serve as a meeting place for local groups. The DJ academy will provide lessons and workshops, enriching the local music scene.

This project is part of Sutton Council’s broader initiative to revitalize Sutton High Street, funded by the Government’s Future High Streets Fund. The council's Director of Development, Growth, and Regeneration, Carolyn Dwyer, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: "We’re proud to support our long-standing and new local businesses by bringing vacant buildings back into use to attract even more people into our Town Centre, adding more attractions to the incredible offer we have already in our high street with a wide range of shops, cafe’s, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues."

She added: "We are bringing empty buildings back into use and creating new jobs for local residents."

In addition to its regular programming, Throwley Yard Cinema will participate in the London Festival of Architecture with events like a screening and tour on June 17th and a discussion on urban space revitalization on June 20th.

The cinema has also launched a special early-bird membership offer, available until the opening day. Membership perks include free film tickets, discounts on tickets and concessions, and exclusive event invites.
