First Teaser for New Star Trek Series Released!

Earlier this year, it was announced that 2017 will see a brand new Star Trek television show - the first since Enterprise was taken off air in 2005. Since then, I’ve been quite keenly following all the information linked to it; most exciting so far has been the news that Bryan Fuller (showrunner of Hannibal) and Nicholas Meyer (director of The Wrath of Khan) will be executive producing this new series.

Beyond that, admittedly, we know little. I’ve tried my hand at speculating about what we might see, but it does of course remain inconclusive. There’s been a few rumours we might be getting an anthology series in the vein of True Detective or Fargo, which certainly has a lot of potential.

Finally though, CBS has released the first teaser for the new series, which you can view here:

Admittedly, though, this doesn’t reveal much. We don’t even get the name of the series, which I had been hoping for. (Though perhaps the manner in which the video lingers on “New Worlds” suggests that as a potential subtitle for the series?)

It’s worth bearing in mind, of course, that this isn’t so much intended to be a trailer for viewers, but more something to grab the attention of advertisers. This exists solely as a statement of intent - Star Trek is back, not as a reboot or a remake, but as something entirely new.

And that’s rather wonderful, isn’t it? I’m so, so excited for this new Star Trek. I genuinely can’t wait - it’s going to be brilliant.
