Five arrested after 'street brawl' sees police descend on residential road

Five people have been arrested after a 'street brawl' in Thornaby.

Police flooded Shetland Avenue on Thursday evening after reports of a disturbance on the nearby Oxford Road at around 6.15pm.

Pictures show several police vans lined along the residential street, with eyewitnesses reporting there were around 10 units at the scene on Shetland Avenue.

Cleveland Police has now confirmed that four men - aged 17, 25, 32 and 47 - and a 32-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of violence against a person.

All five remain in custody being interviewed by officers.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the street in Oxford Road, Thornaby at around 6.15 pm yesterday.

"There were no reports of anyone having been seriously injured and four men (17, 25, 32 and 47) and a woman, 32, were arrested on suspicion of violence against the person and they remain in custody being questioned.

"Enquiries into the report are ongoing and we would appeal for anyone with information, doorbell/dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 121234.
