New speeding restrictions could be implemented in five Colchester roads as revealed through a county council bid.

A Traffic Regulation Order on Essex Highway’s website reveals that Essex County Council is hoping to implement a 20mph zone in Amada Rive, Bettina Close, Elina Road, Nevada Close, and Safrano Avenue.

All five roads are situated in close proximity to each other in Myland.

A document attached to the consultation confirms that the speed restriction must be implemented to be in “accordance with the Essex Design Guide.”

It also said: “This will facilitate a safer pedestrian environment and improve safety for all residents, children, and visitors to the area.

“The reason for the implementation of this speed restriction, is to ensure the speed of vehicular traffic, throughout the development, is kept to a minimum safe speed.

“It is Essex County Council's policy that new housing estate roads are constructed to ensure, as far as is possible, that vehicle speeds are 20mph or below.

“This is done via the introduction of a 20mph zone and a variety of physical measures.”

It is believed having the 20mph zone will “help improve the safety” for all users of the estate and should “improve visibility and manoeuvrability.”

The consultation for this Traffic Regulation Order closes on July 12.
