Five Cornwall bakeries have risen to the cream of the crop, being named among the best in this year's World Pastry Awards by La Liste.

La Liste, a prestigious gastronomic guide recognizing the finest eateries worldwide, revealed 199 establishments across the UK on its global list, including these five establishments in Cornwall: Baker Tom's Bread (Falmouth), St Agnes Bakery (St Agnes), St Ives Bakery (St Ives), Da Mara (Truro), and St Mawes Bakery (Truro).

Baker Tom’s Bread

Baker Tom’s Bread has grown in strength over the last 14 years. According to its website, the business began when founder Tom Hazzledine returned from a gap year in India and worked at a local farm shop to help fund his college course. One day, the shop was let down by its bread supplier. Tom went home, picked up his recipe book and baked a couple of loaves of bread on his mother's kitchen counter. He took the loaves back to the farm shop and the bread sold out.

Tom's Bread has three shops across Cornwall and supplies numerous cafes and restaurants.

St Agnes Bakery

The St Agnes bakery is based on Churchtown in St Agnes and has over 191 'excellent' reviews on Trip Advisor. Many of their reviews claim that the pasties on sale are "the best Cornish pasties." In August 2023, St Agnes Bakery said they were ‘humbled’ after being named one of the top bakeries in the country by the Times Newspaper.

St Ives Bakery

The independently owned and ‘unique’ bakery is located on Fore Street in St Ives. The bakery is highly praised for its traditional Cornish pasties, which are made to a recipe as old as they are. As well as this, they also offer a wide variety of artisan bread, including traditional, sourdough, long fermentation breads, focaccia as well as an exotic range of patisseries.

Da Bara

family-run business Da Bara in St Mawes opened in St Mawes in 2016 and is known for its award-winning breads, pastries, coffee and preserves. It also boasts more than 60 reviews on Trip Advisor.

St Mawes Bakery

On one of its many Trip Advisor reviews St Mawes Bakery is a local family-owned business. It has been running for over 100 years now. The bakery says it takes pride in its freshly baked and made products including our delicious traditional pasties which are made to a recipe as old as they are.
