Five tracks to hear this week (Jan 19-25)

Not so typical: Bleachers' Jack Antonoff: Rebecca Reid

After another dalliance as The Dead Weather, Jack White is back with a third solo album in March. The moody first single, Connected by Love, suggests that the blues minimalist’s sound palette is broader than usual.

In between writing and producing with Taylor Swift and Lorde, Jack Antonoff somehow found time to write plenty of new music with his own band, Bleachers. The latest song to arrive on YouTube is a lightly strummed pop number called Alfie’s Song (Not So Typical Love Song) from the soundtrack to a new film called Love, Simon.

Swedish singer Skott has been slow to build on early buzz that included a large thumbs up from Lorde, but a great new EP should go some way towards turning ears back in her direction. Stay Off My Mind is out now, and in the spring she’ll be over supporting MØ on tour.

New Australian pop singer Eves Karydas is now based in South London and builds a smoky groove on an impressive new song, Further Than the Planes Fly. It arrives online today.

The Go! Team continue to throw together all manner of disparate sounds in a way that sounds fantastic fun on their fifth album, Semicircle, out today. Check out Semicircle Song, which features teenage members of a Detroit marching band shouting out their star signs.
