Motorola’s RAZR phone was an early noughties fashion icon – and the king of flip phones, with worldwide sales of 130 million units for the V3 alone.

Now it’s coming back, with tech firm Binatone having relaunched the RAZR with a new model called the ‘Blade’.

Similar to the relaunch of the Nokia 3310, the new model is priced cheaply – it’s £50 – and is fairly light on features compared to modern smartphones.

Dino Lalvani, Binatone’s chairman said: ‘It’s a fact of life that most of us now carry two mobile phones.

‘Whether it’s a work/home split, a second phone for holidays and festivals or just a temporary device to give to the kids for sleep-overs, we just don’t have a single mobile anymore.

Celebrities such as Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Rihanna have recently been pictured with flip phones – and the gadgets are once again massive in Japan.

Analysts Gartner have said that the boom is partly driven by older phone users who don’t want all the features of smartphones – and that Western Europe could be next for a flip-phone comeback.
