The future of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz continues to generate plenty of transfer speculation ahead of the summer window opening.

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in signing Wirtz this summer, but it has been claimed that they are behind Real Madrid in the running. The 21-year-old helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title last season, beating Bayern Munich in the process.

Wirtz played a key role in the title triumph and has since been linked with Liverpool, Real, Bayern Munich and Manchester City in recent weeks. And now Sky Germany are reporting that the current holders of the Champions League do indeed have an interest in signing Wirtz, but it has been stated that 'no agreement' has been reached between the two clubs.

Reports in recent weeks have also stated that, despite the links, Wirtz is unlikely to leave Leverkusen this summer. The ECHO also understands that Liverpool do not have any plans to try and sign the playmaker this summer, despite the repeated transfer links.

It's thought Liverpool's existing squad options and Leverkusen's asking price for Wirtz mean a transfer is not deemed a priority this summer. Reports have suggested that Leverkusen would demand a fee of over £100million to allow the German international, who scored 18 goals with 20 assists last season, to leave the club.
