Florida teen brothers arrested after sister shot dead during row over Christmas presents

Two teenage brothers were arrested in Florida after their elder sister was shot dead following a family feud over Christmas presents.

Abrielle Baldwin, 23, was allegedly killed by her 14-year-old brother on Sunday, who in turn was shot at by her 15-year-old sibling.

“They had this family spat about who was getting what and what money was being spent on who, and they were having this big thing going on in this store,” Pinellas County Sheriff, Bob Gualtieri said.

Their bickering over Christmas gifts continued even at their grandmother’s place in Largo.

The three siblings were visiting the grandmother who was supposed to babysit Baldwin’s children while she planned to resume work.

However, inside the house, the 14-year-old pulled out a semiautomatic gun, threatening to shoot his elder brother, Mr Gualtieri was quoted as saying by CBS News.

The older teen said he did not want to fight him, as one of their uncles separated the two siblings, sending the 14-year-old outside.

Baldwin, who was outside with her baby, confronted her younger brother who shot her in the chest before threatening her and the baby, the sheriff told the reporters.

The baby was in a carrier and not injured, he added.

The 15-year-old then came out in the yard with his own gun, allegedly shooting the younger teen in his stomach before running away.

He was held at a relative’s house.

While the wounded 14-year-old underwent surgery, the sister was pronounced dead, said Mr Gualtieri. He has been charged with first-degree murder, while the elder brother has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

The Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office will take a call on whether to charge the 14-year-old as an adult, reported NBC-affiliate-KTAL News.

“These young kids — 14, 15 years old — routinely carry firearms and this is what happens when you got young delinquents that carry guns,” Mr Gualtieri told CBS News.

“They get upset, they don’t know how to handle stuff, and they end up shooting each other.”
