Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will take to the ring next month with the former tipped to preserve his unbeaten record.

Mayweather is 49-0 in his professional career and has come out of retirement in a bid to complete a half-century of victories.

The verbal sparring has already gripped the boxing world and beyond, and the money-spinning fight is set to be among the most lucrative of all time.

Betfair have already taken bets totalling £7.5million on the fight with a month still to go until fans descend on the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

That amount already smashes the £5million wagered on Anthony Joshua's bout with Wladimir Klitschko earlier in 2017, while it is just £1.4million shy of the record £8.9million placed with Betfair on Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Betfair Spokesperson Katie Baylis said: “It’s now a month until one of the most anticipated fights in recent memory, and we have seen a phenomenal amount of money already bet, with £7.5million bet on the outcome alone.

“Floyd Mayweather Jr may be the hot 1/6 favourite, with Conor McGregor at 6/1, but while almost 80% of the money is for Mayweather, 40% of bets are actually on McGregor to cause what would be a monumental upset, with 34% on the favoured Mayweather and 26% on the draw.

“The biggest single bet was £100k on Mayweather Jr at the start of the month when his odds were around 1/5 and we expect to see plenty more bets of this nature as we get closer to the fight that we predict will be the biggest boxing betting event in Betfair Exchange history.”
