Folk Uke didn't want to write a song for men who didn't deserve them.

Instead, they wrote a song for each other — one that also celebrates pride.

The anti-folk duo — comprised of Arlo Guthrie's daughter Cathy Guthrie and Willie Nelson's daughter Amy Nelson — has been making music since 1996 when they worked in a restaurant in San Diego together.

While they've remained under the radar, their songs have been featured in Super Troopers II, The Babymakers, and Orange Is the New Black, the latter of which resulted in a No. 1 global hit on Spotify with “Motherf---er Got F---ed Up.”

Throughout their tenure, they've released three albums their 2005 self-titled LP, 2011's Reincarnation and 2016's Starf*cker.

In honor of Pride, Folk Uke has shared the bi-curious ditty, "Gay for You," which is premiering exclusively on PEOPLE and was born from a night of tossing back a few drinks.

"We have lots of ideas when we are drinking!" Cathy and Amy said in a statement to PEOPLE. "One of our ideas was to get married to each other just so we wouldn’t accidentally marry men again."

While Cathy thought Amy was kidding, the song was born from the idea that "instead of writing love songs for undeserving men, maybe we should write love songs for each other," the duo said in a press release.

At a Folk Uke show at The Saxon Pub in Austin, "Gay for You" really got its wings when Amy sprung the song on Cathy in the middle of their show.

"Gay for You" was recorded and engineered by Matt Hubbard, who has worked with Willie, and explores the gamut of "expression, rejection, acceptance" in a playful, stripped-down melody.

"Our twisted lives are bound by fate / I love you so much that I can't see straight / But I'm telling you now because I just couldn't wait / Cathy, I'm gay for you," Amy sings with a sweet lilt on the track.

In the aftermath of near fame and fortune, these musicians continue to pump out sleeping beauties. Fortunately, their trademark wordplay, ethereal harmonies and engaging rapport have garnered the duo a decidedly loyal following who routinely clap at the band’s mistakes at live shows.

Folk Uke is set to appear at Saxon Pub in Austin on Saturday, June 8.
