‘It Follows’ Sequel ‘They Follow’ to Reunite Star Maika Monroe, Director David Robert Mitchell for Neon
David Robert Mitchell is finally making his long-awaited followup to horror hit It Follows. Mitchell is reteaming with star Maika Monroe on They Follow, with Tom Quinn’s Neon introducing the package to buyers at AFM this week.
They Follow will once again star Monroe as Jay Height, whom audiences met in the 2014 film as a young woman who, after having sex with her boyfriend for the first time, learns she will now be hunted by a mysterious entity. The only way to temporarily stave off death is to pass on the curse to someone else, who will become next on the list followed by the entity.

The film grossed $21.9 million globally on a budget of around $1 million. Over the years, talent behind It Follows has discussed a sequel, with Neon’s Quinn suggesting in 2015 it could involve people turning the tables on the entity and following it to its source. No concrete plot details of They Follow have been revealed, however.
Neon is co-producing the sequel, which is expected to shoot next year, along with Good Fear Content. Mitchell will produce with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear. It Follows producers David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith also return. CAA Media Finance brokered the deal with Neon, the company behind best picture winner Parasite and which recently released Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool.
Mitchell is repped by CAA, Good Fear Content and David Fox at Myman Greenspan. His other credits include Under the Silver Lake starring Andrew Garfield.
Monroe is represented by WME and Entertainment360, and has already filmed another Neon project: Oz Perkins Longlegs, in which she co-starred alongside Nicolas Cage.
The producers are represented by Hayden Goldblatt of FKKS, Allison Binder of GGSSC and Michael Weiss of Concentric Law.
