Footballers' Wives is coming back as a musical
Footballers' Wives is set to finally return, but not in the way you'd think – and no, it's not a movie of the Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy saga (unfortunately).
The classic ITV show ran for five series in the early noughties, and managed to capture the culture of 'WAGs' that was a staple of the age.
Well, now it's coming back, but as a stage musical rather than a TV reboot, with original series co-creator Maureen Chadwick confirming that the play is being written based on the first series of the TV show (via Radio Times).

As the title suggests, the series followed the lives of WAGs, though was largely focused on Tanya Turner and her marriage to footballer Jason Turner.
However, fans shouldn't hold out hope for a TV reboot, as producer Liz Lake said there are no plans to bring it back to the small screen.
"If there's an appetite for it, and enough people want it, it would be worth having that conversation," she told Radio Times.
"Whatever job I do, I get people telling me they loved Footballers' Wives. It was an escape and a bit of refreshing camp, but it was still really bold storytelling.
"I think we'd prefer to have an update than a reboot, a revival moving it forward. It's more than just nostalgia, it's about seeing what life is like now."
It seems there is an appetite among viewers for a TV reboot too, with Digital Spy readers picking Footballers' Wives as their number one choice for a revival out of a number of classic cancelled shows.
The Footballers' Wives musical is aiming to hit theatres in 2020.
