Diane Abbott went viral on social media today after she was spotted wearing two left shoes from different pairs while canvassing voters.

The shadow home secretary was pictured with Meg Hillier, Labour MP for Hackney South, encouraging constituents to support Labour.

The photo quickly went viral online when users spotted Ms Abbott was wearing two black left shoes from different pairs.

One tweeter commented: “Clearly not a morning person. Not only wearing two different shoes, but two left-footed shoes!”

Ms Abbott is the MP for the neighbouring constituency of Hackney Central, and is defending a majority of over 30,000.

Ms Hillier, who represents one of the strongest Remain-voting constituencies in the country, won almost 80 per cent of the vote in 2017.

Ms Abbott has been notably absent from the Labour election campaign.

One of her only appearances in the headlines came when she used lawyers to try and prevent The Telegraph publishing details of her son’s arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Her son, James Abbott-Thompson, 28, was arrested outside the Foreign Office in Whitehall following the altercation with an “emergency worker”.

Ms Abbott was pictured outside various Overground stations around East London on Wednesday, canvassing commuters on their way to work.

She posted a photo of her carrying a Labour-branded umbrella on Instagram, captioned: ”Rain or shine, remember to get to your polling station today and vote Labour”.

Other photos of Ms Abbott on social media were cropped to avoid showing her feet.

Her canvassing started early, in the same constituency where Jeremy Corbyn gave a rally on Wednesday night.

In a twist of fate, Labour and the Conservatives organised events just miles from each other in East London.

Mr Corbyn spoke in Hoxton, while Boris Johnson attempted to resurrect the Olympic spirit by addressing campaigners in Stratford.
