Donald Trump's 'mental decline could not be denied' claims former assistant

Donald Trump’s mental decline ‘cannot be denied’, a former assistant has revealed in a new tell-all book.

Omarosa Manigault-Newman, who first met Mr Trump when she appeared on The Apprentice, highlighted what she described as the President’s deteriorating mental state in her new book, ‘Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House’.

The Daily Mail published an excerpt from the book, in which Manigault describes her reaction when she saw the President interviewed by NBC’s Lester Holt in May 2017.

“While watching the interview I realized that something real and serious was going on in Donald’s brain. His mental decline could not be denied,” the Mail quoted her as writing.

“Many didn’t notice it as keenly as I did because I knew him way back when. They thought Trump was being Trump, off the cuff. But I knew something wasn’t right.”

During the interview, Trump contradicted the White House party line that FBI head James Comey was fired on the recommendation by the Department of Justice.

Manigault apparently wrote: “Throughout this erratic and contradictory interview, I kept thinking, ‘Oh no! Oh no! This is bad! Donald rambled. He spoke gibberish. He contradicted himself from one sentence to the next.”

The book comes seven months after Omarosa’s departure from the White House and is set to be published by Gallery Books – a division of Simon & Schuster.

It is the latest explosive book by someone close to President Trump.

Manigault met the President on the Apprentice and went on to work as his assistant.

She is said to have been sacked from a role as director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison in December 2017.

She denied reports that she had been carried out of the White House by security, saying she had resigned.

She later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.
