A former city centre Iceland store could be set for a very different future. The Deeside based chain closed its supermarket at Deiniol shopping centre in Bangor in March last year.

They relocated staff to a larger Food Warehouse store on Caernarfon Road. It left the store in the centre of Bangor empty - adding to the retail woes of that part of the city.

But a new proposal has now been put forward for the site. Chris Thomas has applied to open a snooker and pool hall at the unit.

They propose having five staff at the site and be open until 11pm each evening. This could help bring more people into the city centre.

Many struggling retail centres are now looking to diversify the offer in a bid to fill units - with a large number of vacant stores on Bangor high street.

The application will now be considered by planners at Cyngor Gwynedd.
