Curtis Davies became Cheltenham Town's oldest EFL player last season and he has now made international football history.

The 39-year-old defender scored the opening goal for Sierra Leone in a 2-1 win over Djibouti on Wednesday.

It was his second cap, having appeared in a 2-0 friendly victory over Somalia in Morocco.

But this week's game was his competitive debut and he is believed to the be the oldest international debutant to score in a World Cup qualifier.

Davies was born in east London, but his dad Eugene was born and raised in the West African country of Sierra Leone.

Curtis was named in Fabio Capello's first England squad in January 2008, but did not take to the field for the Three Lions at senior level.

He played in the Premier League for West Brom, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Hull City, scoring in the FA Cup final against Arsenal in 2014.

Davies spent six seasons at Derby County before joining Cheltenham last summer and making 37 League One appearances, along with a memorable winner away to Burton Albion.

Davies left Cheltenham at the end of the season, following the club's final day relegation to League Two, with then manager Darrell Clarke saying he expected him to retire from playing.
