Former Hull City midfielder set to join Fleetwood Town from Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham Town midfielder Elliot Bonds is set to join League Two rivals Fleetwood Town, according to reports.

Gloucestershire Live was made aware that Fleetwood have been interested in signing the 24-year-old and it has now been suggested that a deal has been agreed.

A five-figure sum is likely to be involved for the Guyana international, who has one year left on his contract.

He has been a Cheltenham player since the summer of 2021, having spent time on loan from Hull City during the 2020/21 campaign. His temporary spell was cut short by a serious knee injury.

After impressing in a loan stint with Kidderminster Harriers, Bonds really hit form for Cheltenham midway through his first season as a permanent player, spurred on by a stunning long-range goal in the 2-1 home win over Sunderland in February 2022.

He has made a total of 114 appearances for the club, scoring five times, including another long-ranger at Cambridge United in 2022/23 and a brace in last season's 2-0 home win over Blackpool.

Bonds now looks set to join Charlie Adam's Fleetwood, who were relegated from League One along with the Robins last season.

Other contracted players could also be set to depart in the coming days and weeks.

Cheltenham's players are due to return for pre-season fitness testing on Tuesday morning, with the 2023/24 fixtures released at 9am on Wednesday morning.

The Robins have been draw in an EFL Trophy group with new boss Michael Flynn's former club Newport County AFC, along with Reading.

The final invited (Under-21s) team will be drawn on Thursday afternoon.
