A former supporter of convicted killer Luke Mitchell has told how she has suffered a torrent of abuse after exposing lies by his backers.

The young woman said the threats are a result of her putting trial information online. Mitchell, 35, was 16 when he was jailed for life for murdering his girlfriend Jodi Jones near her home in Easthouses, Midlothian, in June 2003. His bid for parole was rejected in April.

Since 2021 his supporters have called for a case review, claiming a miscarriage of justice. The woman said she called police after her efforts to share original trial details went “down like a lead balloon” with his campaign.

She said: “Over recent months a significant number of key witness trial testimonies have been purchased and placed online, with appropriate permission, for anyone to see and form their own judgment.”

She said the documents “resulted in a heinous backlash from Mitchell campaigners because, I believe, the transcripts highlight the differences between what has been said by Luke’s supporters and what was really said during the trial”.

The woman said she has been called a “child abuser” and has had threatening phone calls. She added: “I work with kids and they’re trying to damage my reputation.”

The woman, who was heavily involved in Mitchell’s campaign, noticed “those who asked questions” were “shut down”.

She added: “I subsequently left the team and was quickly branded a traitor.”

Police told her there isn’t enough evidence to charge anyone for the abuse. She added: “I’ll keep putting up transcripts as they become available. People have paid a lot of money into the campaign and they should have all the information.”
