Former Raptor Rafer Alston featured on hype song for Game 3 vs. Warriors

With Raptors mania sweeping through the NBA, stars from previous eras of the team have come out in support of Toronto.

Just before tipoff in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Raptors honoured former members of the team who were in town to take it all in — Chris Bosh, Muggsy Bogues, Charles Oakley, Jerome Williams, Morris Peterson, Tracy McGrady and Damon Stoudemire, among others.

But Rafer Alston isn’t about to let those guys hog all the room on the Raptors bandwagon.

Ahead of a pivotal Game 3 in California, Toronto recording artist Theology 3 released Volume 2 of his Raptors playoff mixtape, which features a guest appearance from “Skip To My Lou” himself.

New fans may not recognize him, but the real Raptors heads certainly do. Alston was a streetball legend from Jamaica, Queens in New York City who rose to fame with the And1 Mixtape Tour. Before long, the Milwaukee Bucks signed him to a contract that kickstarted his 13-year NBA career.

“Skip” played two seasons with the Raptors — the first in 2002-03, as well as a second stint in 2004-05 — averaging 11.8 points, 5.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He was instantly a fan favourite as his legendary streetball status made him a fun player to watch on an NBA court.

He may not be able to suit up for Game 3, but Alston is sending nothing but good vibes as the Raptors try to take a 2-1 series lead over the Warriors.
