Yahoo News Four-car death crash may have been caused by driver avoiding pothole
A fatal crash involving four cars may have been caused by a driver trying to avoid a pothole.
The Argus understands that police are investigating the possibility that one of the cars swerved to avoid a pothole shortly before the collision which killed the driver of a white Porsche near Petworth on Monday.
The driver, a 74-year-old man from Surrey, died in the crash on Monday morning which closed the road for most of the day.
The Monday morning smash on the A272 was on the same day as a Porsche owners club track day at the nearby Goodwood racing circuit.
Porsche Club Great Britain said: "At this time, we haven't been informed that this is one of our members."

A 65-year-old man from Midhurst in a BMW sustained serious injuries and was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester where he is stable.
The collision on the A272 Horsham Road happened near Fox Hill at about 7.50am.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Highways said: "We are aware of a four-vehicle collision on the A272 Horsham Road in Petworth on Monday in which a man has sadly died and another driver suffered injuries.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved.
"The police are carrying out a collision investigation and we await their findings. It would not be appropriate to comment any further at this time.”
