Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is keen on a return to Old Trafford should Erik ten Hag be sacked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Pressure is growing on Ten Hag after an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night. MEN Sport understands Mourinho has told confidants that he would 'walk' to Manchester if it meant he could take on the job.

Mourinho is a friend of Ratcliffe however he is not expecting United to reach out to him to replace the Dutchman. Should he return to the Theatre of Dreams, Mourinho may be interested in bringing players to the club that he has previously worked with.

The Manchester Evening News has taken a look at four men who could follow Mourinho to Old Trafford if he was offered a return.

Tammy Abraham

Current AS Roma centre-forward Abraham was brought to the club by Mourinho as he searched for more game time away from Chelsea. The 26-year-old has been linked to United in previous windows and the return of his former boss would make a move to Old Trafford more likely.

Abraham's campaign has been marred by a serious cruciate ligament injury which has kept him sidelined for most of the season. However, Mourinho would back himself to get the best out of Abraham in the Premier League where in his last campaign he scored 12 goals in all competitions for Chelsea.

Fikayo Tomori

United are desperate for a centre-back and Tomori would be an astute acquisition if possible. The 26-year-old has been a rock for AC Milan in Serie A and many hope he will be included in Gareth Southgate's squad for the European Championships this summer.

Tomori will feel he has a point to prove in the Premier League after being allowed to leave by Chelsea and he would be a welcome recruit to the beleaguered United defence.

Evan Ndicka

An alternative to Tomori would be Ndicka who chose to reject the advances of Liverpool in the summer to join Mourinho at Roma. He has been ever-present in the defence this season, only missing a big chunk of matches for the Africa Cup of Nations which he won with Ivory Coast.

At 24, there is still plenty of potential for Ndicka and the combination of Mourinho and United could be enough to tempt him to switch.

Nicolo Zaniolo

A left-field option here having been sold to Galatasaray under Mourinho's watch at Roma but Zaniolo could be a player to take a gamble on especially with no European football next season being a realistic proposition. There is still time for him to fulfil his undoubted potential and Mourinho did like him.

However, the key word there is did. Zaniolo and Mourinho had a bust-up towards the end of his time at Roma after declaring he wanted to leave the club but stranger things have happened in football.
