Free sandwiches being given out tomorrow as new Salford brunch spot launches

Salford Quays recently unveiled waterfront food and drink destination is preparing to welcome its latest trader - and it's giving out free sandwiches to mark the occasion.

Kargo Mkt, a 25,000 sq ft food hall features 19 independent vendors including well-known favourites Ad Maiora, House of Habesha, Jerk Junction and Nila's Burmese Kitchen. Tomorrow, they'll welcome a new brunch spot into the fold, in the form of Egg & Co, a concept billed as the 'first egg sandwich concept in the North'.

From 10am, when the food hall opens to the public, the first 50 customers in the queue will be given one of Egg & Co's signature egg and cheese sandwiches. All customers will need to do is show staff that they follow the band on social media.

Promising to bring an 'unforgettable' breakfast experience to Salford, Egg & Co has already established itself over at Ancoats General Store on Great Ancoats Street. Those behind the concept say they pride themselves on pride crafting 'exceptional' brunch sandwiches and breakfast specials.

Founded by Umer Khalid, Egg & Co’s journey began with a vision to 'revolutionise brunch' by elevating the simple egg sandwich to new heights. Umer’s passion for flavour and freshness and his desire to offer something new to Manchester’s food scene are at the core of the brand's mission.

Using the same free-range eggs as used by the Royal Family, and using halal ingredients, options include egg and cheese fillings served in artisan brioche buns, as well as add-ons such as caramelised onions, avocado and bacon. Sides, or 'Eggstra Bits' as their known, include turkey bacon and beef patty.

The food hall where Egg & Co will be taking up residence has been developed by Blend Family, the team behind the award-winning food halls Cutlery Works in Sheffield and the GPO in Liverpool. The food and drink hub at Salford Quays features 19 kitchens, space for 400 guests, a 2,000 sq ft outdoor terrace, five shipping container kitchens and a bar looking out onto Old Trafford and the Imperial War Museum.

Egg & Co prides is set to open its doors at Kargo Mkt on Tuesday, 9 April. The first 50 customers in line at 10am will receive a free egg and cheese sandwich, but will need to make sure they follow @eggandco__ on Instagram beforehand.

Frustration over expiration dates is helping to fuel FOGO, with over half of Brits (64%) saying they are often disappointed with how long their fresh food lasts. What's more, over a third of Brits (36%) say they have to make return visits to the shops due to their produce going off quicker than expected, with the most common culprits being salad leaves (43%), bread (34%) and soft fruits (33%). Laura Harricks at Ocado added, ''We know how frustrating it can be when food goes off before you were expecting; it can throw meal plans out the window and as this study reveals, social plans and money too!
