Free student film showcase closes 2024 Covey Festival

Feb. 6—THOMASVILLE- The 2024 Covey Film Festival's slate of regular screenings finished up January 29, but a unique pop-up event is set as the festival finale on Saturday afternoon, February 10.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m. at The Covey Nest event space, located at 210 W. Jackson Street in downtown Thomasville, Covey will showcase a selection of short films created by students in the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts. Additionally, the event will feature the screening of a short film by the local teen who won Covey's student film competition held in partnership with Thomasville Landmarks.

Covey's student film competition for 2024 was open to high school juniors and seniors who attend school in Thomas County. As Thomasville Landmarks is dedicated to preserving Thomas County's historic architecture, landscapes and history, this year's theme focused on filming Thomas County's landmark buildings, landscapes, objects, and sites.

Special guests on hand for the showcase will include FSU College of Motion Picture Arts Filmmaker-In-Residence Paul Cohen and several of the featured student filmmakers.

Admission is free.

With a goal of entertaining, educating and engaging the community, Covey Film Festival is the signature fundraising event for the Thomasville Community Resource Center. Since its inception, Covey has raised well over $100,000 to help fund educational and enrichment programs at TCRC, which now serves more than 500 children, their families and the community in multiple locations in Thomas, Brooks, Grady and Mitchell counties.
