Frozen was great because it turned some of the tired clichés of Disney films on their head (falling in love with at prince at first sight isn't a good idea?!) and it looks like the sequel is going to go even further.

Elsa actress Idina Menzel told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming sequel is "a real girl power, badass kind of superhero type of movie".

"They're really strong, the two sisters, and it's exciting. The music is beautiful," she added.

She also compared the Disney heroine to her iconic role of Elphaba in the musical Wicked, stating: "Elsa, Elphaba, they're young women that are afraid of their incredible power and then learn a way to harness that.

"The power and beauty of fierce, incredible women… not apologising for who you are, especially in this time we're in."

As well as the returning characters from the first film, the trailer showcased a mysterious new character that fans are hoping could be Elsa's girlfriend.

Co-director and co-writer Jennifer Lee hasn't ruled out the possibility, stating: "It means the world to us that we're part of these conversations. Where we're going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we're really conscientious about these things.

"For me... Elsa's every day telling me where she needs to go, and she'll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa's doing in her life, she's telling me every day. We'll see where we go."

Frozen 2 is released in cinemas on November 22.
