A mum told a court she was ‘absolutely furious’ after finding out her underage son had allegedly been groomed by his teacher who then had sex with him.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, is currently on trial, facing six charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child. The accusations, which she denies, involve two teenage boys she encountered through her teaching role at a Greater Manchester school.

Manchester Crown Court jurors have previously heard allegations that Joynes groomed one student with a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre before having sex with him, and subsequently became pregnant by another teenage student.

On Thursday morning, May 9, a statement from the mum of one of the boys, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, was read out to the jury, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The statement read: "One night after coming home from school, he said to me: 'My teacher is well fit mum,' I laughed and thought it was a typical thing for a teenage boy to say, and at the time thought nothing of it."

It was previously alleged to the jurors the boy had spent the night at Joynes' flat after their visit to the Trafford Centre. Prosecutors claim Joynes had sex with the boy at her flat.

The boy, known as Boy A, admitted during cross-examination he had lied to his mum, claiming he'd stayed at a friend's house instead. A few days later, while out shopping at the Trafford Centre with his mum, she noticed a 'red/purple mark' on his neck resembling a 'love bite'.

She recalled: "I said: 'What's that mark on your neck?' And he said: 'Oh nothing, I don't know.'"

Later, she received a call from the deputy head teacher at the school regarding allegations involving her son and Joynes. She went to the school and spoke to her son who dismissed it as "just a stupid conversation on group chats that got out of hand".

She continued: "I said I can't believe you said this, you could have cost this girl her career now. She then received a phone call from the mother of her son's friend, who confessed she had previously lied about Boy A staying at her house.

"I asked: 'Where did he stay then?' and she said: 'In Salford, I only know this as I went there to pick him up.' I said: 'It wasn't the teacher's house, was it?' and she said: 'Yeah it was.'

"I was upset, crying and just ended the call. I was absolutely furious and crying my eyes out. [Boy A] then came into the room and said: 'Mum I'm so sorry I have lied to you.'

"And I said: "I already know what's happened I'm going to go to the f******g school. He was begging me [not to go] saying: 'Mum, please don't.'"

She stated she then visited the school to speak with police, where she was informed of the allegation her son had stayed at Joynes' residence that night.

Joynes, from Pensby Road, Wirral, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.

The trial continues.
