Luxury Bahamas Fyre Festival backed by Bella Hadid compared to ‘disaster relief zone’

A supposedly ‘luxury’ festival has been labelled ‘Rich Kids of Instagram meets Lord of the Flies’ after it descended into chaos as it was due to kick off over the weekend.

Punters paid up to £10k for tickets to rapper Ja Rule’s Fyre festival in the Bahamas, however, have been left stranded after they arrived at a half complete site compared to a ‘disaster relief zone’.

Billed as a ‘cultural moment created from an alchemic blend of music, art, and food’ with revellers flown in by a ‘VIP-configured Boeing 737’, Fyre festival was due to be a weekend of comfort and extravagance.

However, festival-goers promised an experience ‘way cooler than Coachella’ reported half-built tents, feral dogs wandering around the site and mountains of rubbish. A stark contrast to the ad shots which featured the likes of Emily Ratajowski and Bella Hadid.

Models Elsa Hosk, Emily Ratajkowski, Bella Hadid, Lais Ribeiro, Gizele Oliveira and Rose Bertram all visited the site for the festival’s launch back in December, raising questions today about the roles of paid influencers.
Customers were greeted by an empty concierge tent, and piles of unopened boxes as the venue seemed to have been abandoned only half complete.

On social media those stranded wrote that they were stuck with little food, water or electricity. Some online likened their luxury ‘cabanas’ to disaster zone relief tents.

While the website promised ‘chef-curated culinary pop ups’, the food posted on Instagram looked anything but.

There have also been reports of lack of security and tents being broken into and things stolen.

The festival hit even more problems when planes scheduled to depart Miami for the festival were grounded with airline reps saying that the island was over capacity.

The festival which was planned to take place over the next two weekends boasted the likes of Pusha T, Tyga, Blink 182, Major Lazer, Skepta and Disclosure.

But last night Blink 182 pulled out of the event. The band said in a message to fans: “Regrettably and after much careful consideration, we want to let you know that we won’t be performing at Fyre Fest in the Bahamas this weekend and next weekend.”

The festival has since been officially postponed.

In a statement, they said: “Due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances, Fyre Festival has been fully postponed.”

“At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get all travellers home safely.”
