Gabby Agbonlahor mocks Birmingham City after League One fixtures release

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has mocked his old club's rivals Birmingham City after they learned their League One fixture schedule on Wednesday. Blues, who slipped into the third tier for the first time in almost 30 years when they were relegated on the final day of the Championship season last month, will begin their effort to return to the second tier at the first attempt with the visit of Reading on 10 August.

Villa, meanwhile, are preparing to try and earn themselves another place in the Champions League having qualified for the newly formatted competition at the back end of last season under Unai Emery.

Agbonlahor, who came through the ranks and spent time leading the line during their previous Premier League era before suffering relegation in 2016, has moved into punditry after retiring from football and was in conversation with former Scotland striker Alan Brazil on talkSPORT when Blues' calendar was put to him. While Blues will be ticking off some unfamiliar grounds in the third tier, Villa will be taking on some of the best European sides.

"Leyton Orient? Aston Villa could be playing Real Madrid, Mbappe coming to Villa Park and staying at Malmaison in the Mailbox with the Real Madrid team," Agbonlahor said. "Poor old Birmingham City will be at Leyton Orient. I want them down there, let them suffer, keep them in League One."
