Game of Thrones: Has Sansa developed a lust for murder?

With ‘Game of Thrones’ season six concluding in the most thrilling of ways this week, actor Sophie Turner has spoke of Sansa’s new lust for death.

***Warning: Season six spoilers ahead***

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in the wake of the devastation of season six’s finale, Turner was keen to discuss Lady Stark’s vengeful side: “I think Sansa could maybe develop a taste for killing. Who knows. It could be a little worrying, for sure,” she shared.

Episode nine saw her mercilessly feed Ramsey Bolton to his own bloodthirsty dogs, and even she loves how her character’s developed over the seasons and how she has specifically changed in the most recent episodes.

“This is something everyone wanted out of Sansa. She had certainly been building up to this over the past five seasons, her first kill. But I think what people should be maybe a bit wary of is how much she seemed to enjoy it.”

Are we seeing Sansa, the once sweet, very naive and sheltered girl, now turning to a darker, more sadistic side?

Her character development is huge over the course of the entire series, and to be fair she’s been through a hell of a lot in that period of time. But while many of her experiences, not least being illegally married off to cruel Ramsay, it’s allowed her to harden and become the Sansa we see giving Jon Snow sound battle tactics, even though he doesn’t really take on board what she’s telling him. There’s a lack of transparency betwene the two, notably where the Battle of the B*****ds takes place.

“I think Sansa trusts Jon to make morally right decisions, but I’m not sure if she trusts him with the kind of political things. I don’t know if she trusts Davos completely, and he’s kind of his advisor. I think it’s more about being open with each other, like with Sansa writing to Littlefinger for the Knights of the Vale. I think Jon means they need to be more open with each other and tell each other what’s going on — and it’s very frustrating for Sansa to hear him say that. She knows he means it more about her than it is him talking about himself. And he really needs to trust her.”

But none of us should underestimate Sansa now she’s gotten rid of her illegitimate hubby.

“I think he underestimates just how strong she is, and just how easily she can forget him. Now that she’s killed him she can forget him, and she can move on with her life.”

Not even flinching when Ramsay was horribly devoured is one thing, but as she walks off, rather than stay to watch the grizzly death, the smirk she expresses as she calmly leaves the area speaks volumes about the new, fierce Sansa Stark. She’s also now at a point where she’s no longer in awe of Littlefinger’s charms; instead she confidently fends off his advances with a swift, outstretched arm.

- Cersei’s prophecy explained

It feels like her path is sort of running parallel with younger, estranged sibling Arya, but in a less physically murderous way. Both Stark sisters have experienced so much during their time away from Winterfell, albeit in extremely different ways that both harden them to death. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be fascinating to see the sisters reunite - if they ever manage to - at some point during season seven or eight.
