Game of Thrones: my love-hate relationship with The Door *SPOILERS*

This week’s post is going to be a bit different than usual, because although I loved a lot of things and a lot of people in this episode - even further, it was probably the best of this season - the ending broke my heart into a thousand pieces and I just cannot go back to being enthusiastic.

The last couple of minutes with Summer sacrificing himself for Bran and the gut-wreching truth about Hodor was the saddest thing that’s ever happened on this show.

I loved this episode a lot, and I think it’s mostly because it involved less characters than usual. This way their scenes were much longer, there was a lot more depth to them than the 3-4 minute long segments in the previous episodes.

I loved Sansa, she is continuously proving how strong she got and her scene with Littlefinger was especially powerful. Arya’s story is also interesting and learning how the White Walkers were born was something I loved as well.

I loved Yara and Theon, Dany and Jorah, the new Red Woman (that was surprising) making Varys confused and uncomfortable. And I also loved Brienne’s description of Jon and her budding relationship with Tormund.

“He seems trustworthy. A bit brooding perhaps.”

Except for the last ten minutes, I only hated Euron in this episode - that should have been alarming. Because hating only one person on this show is way too good to be true.

So The Door gave a lot of reasons to be excited, we made a lot of progress, characters are getting better than ever. This episode was my favourite of the season with so much to love, but still, for now, all I can think of is Summer and Hodor. And I hate Bran a bit now.

“Hold the door.”
