Game, Set, Match: Zendaya Takes Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist to Court in ‘Challengers’ Trailer

Love is a dangerous game in the second Challengers trailer, released Wednesday. The highly anticipated Luca Guadagnino film will release this April following delays caused by the actors strike last year.

The new trailer offers a second preview into the high-stakes, R-rated love triangle between Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor that plays out at center court in the world of professional tennis. Guadagnino’s film centers on Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a tennis prodigy-turned-coach following a career-ending injury. Duncan is married to Art (Faist), a champion currently on a losing streak, who must face off against Patrick (O’Connor), his former best friend and Duncan’s ex-boyfriend.

“As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win?” the release reads.

The film’s first trailer, released last June, made waves for its Rihanna soundtrack and make-or-break chemistry between the three leads. The second look adds to this anticipation as the film warms up for its release on April 26.

Though the movie was originally set as the opening night feature at last year’s Venice Film Festival, MGM pushed the movie to 2024 following the actors strike. “How do you go to Venice without Zendaya supporting?” a source noted at the time.

Guadagnino is best known for his films Call Me By Your Name (2017) and Bones and All (2022). Challengers is produced by Amy Pascal via her Pascal Pictures banner, as well as Guadagnino and Zendaya. Playwright-singer-author Justin Kuritzkes penned the script, which landed on the 2021 Black List.
