The wizarding world of Harry Potter and the Song of Ice and Fire from Game of Thrones are colliding once again.

This time, it is the upcoming prequel series unofficially called The Long Night bringing the pop culture juggernauts together with its latest casting (via Deadline).

Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson is joining an ensemble cast that already includes Oscar nominee Naomi Watts, Poldark star Josh Whitehouse, Star Wars: Episode IX's Naomi Ackie, Fantastic Beasts' Jamie Campbell Bower and The Chronicles of Narnia's Georgie Henley.

Many will remember Richardson for playing Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter, making her the latest in a long line from the wizarding world to cross over to Game of Thrones. Like all those before her to join The Long Night, her role is being kept under wraps.

The Long Night is set thousands of years before the events of the current Game of Thrones series - essentially "a different world", according to author George RR Martin.

"There's no King's Landing. There's no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens, Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built," he recently revealed.

"We're dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series."

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on April 14, 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
