Yahoo News Game of Thrones season 8 pacing was "well thought out", insists HBO boss

Following a spectacularly polarising final season of Game of Thrones, HBO's programming president Casey Bloys has come forward in defence of its pacing.
Season eight – which just ended its six-episode run last weekend – had its fair share of surprising moments and deaths, but wasn't it all a bit rushed?
The general consensus from fans suggested yes, it probably was.

In conversation with Variety, however, Bloys waved off the criticism, as he responded: "File this under you can't please everybody."
Defending showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, he elaborated "The guys have had a very, very specific plan in their head for a long time. This was not something that was kind of slapdash, where at the end of last season we said, 'Eh, we only feel like doing six'.
"They were very, very deliberate. This was well thought out."

Bloys also added: "I think the guys did a great job. It's always sad when a show departs, but that's part of the TV life cycle, and life moves on. But obviously we're really proud of the show."
