Winter is here, and war is coming on Game of Thrones.

The White Walkers have breached the wall, the Night King has his own damn ice dragon, and season eight will no doubt include a number of intense battles on screen.

And who better to trust behind the camera than Miguel Sapochnik – who directed season six's breathtaking 'Battle of the Bastards' and season five's stunning 'Hardhome'.

Yes, Sapochnik appears to be returning for the eighth and final season of HBO's fantasy drama, suggesting that indeed there will be at least one truly epic and action-packed episode.

Cinematographer Fabian Wagner, who worked with Sapochnik on 'Battle of the Bastards', 'Hardhome', and season six finale 'The Winds of Winter', revealed on Instagram that the old team was getting back together:

After a year's break during season seven, Sapochnik's return is surely something to be excited about.

In the acclaimed 'Battle of the Bastards', Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton faced off in a battle to determine control of Winterfell – which ended in Jon victorious and Ramsay fed to his own dogs.

Meawhile, it has been suggested that the final season will be shooting multiple endings to combat leaks.

Game of Thrones airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Pre-order the season 7 DVD or Blu-ray, or buy a digital download here.
