Note: The following article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones' season 8 finale.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner thinks her character Sansa Stark ended up with "the most satisfying ending" of anyone on the show.

Whereas Sansa started off the series desperate to one day become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms alongside Joffrey, this past weekend's finale 'The Iron Throne' saw her turning down the chance to rule.

Instead, Sansa chose to remain de facto leader of an independent kingdom in the North while her brother Bran the Broken (Isaac Hempstead Wright) ascended to ruler of the now-Six Kingdoms.

"Since she got to King's Landing in season one, [Sansa] never wanted that Iron Throne," Turner has now told Entertainment Tonight of her character's big decision.

She went on: "She never wanted to rule over that many people… I think, watching how this character finished on Game of Thrones was the most satisfying ending."

The actress also felt strongly that keeping hold over the Stark stronghold at Winterfell was in the best interests of the family, in the long run.

"I love the way that Sansa's journey ended," she said. "I think it was kind of the one thing that she wanted throughout the whole show… to be home and to be where she felt most safe and comfortable and that's Winterfell. She's totally capable of leading those people."

Some fans haven't been as thrilled with the last episodes, with nearly 1.5 million demanding the cast and crew return to remake the final season. Turner has dismissed those complaints as "disrespectful".
